Service · Nonprofit accounting
Specialized accounting for Nicaraguan nonprofits
We keep rigorous books that reconcile donations, projects and administrative costs with the requirements of regulators and international donors, giving your partner legal and tax peace of mind, giving you confidence in the numbers, and giving its board clear information to decide.
What we solve
Nonprofit accounting is not commercial accounting.
It takes technical rigor to keep each donor’s funds separate, distinguish project costs from administrative expenses, and match what is booked exactly with what is reported to Nicaragua’s Ministry of the Interior and to donors.
We can take on the accounting in full or work side by side with the organization’s in-house team to strengthen its processes. Either way, we bring technical judgment to complex situations: in-kind donations, grant close-outs, accruals and external project audits.
What’s included
Books kept current, and accounting you can rely on.

Bookkeeping and reconciliations
Transactions processed under GAAP, regular bank reconciliations and control of receivables, payables and inventory, each with supporting documents and the right budget coding.

Accounting systems
We run or migrate the books in QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Dynamics GP, setting up cost centers, classes and funding sources.

Tax compliance
Monthly withholding and filings with the national tax authority (DGI) and the municipality, and advice so the organization does not pay tax it does not owe, in light of the 2024 reforms to Nicaragua’s Tax Law.

Monthly close and financial statements
Timely monthly closes and full financial statements, with notes on the origin of funds, donor restrictions, accounting policies and contingencies.

Fund and project accounting
Strict separation of restricted, unrestricted and own funds, and of direct project costs from administrative expenses, with budget-execution reports tailored to each donor.

Alignment with the Ministry of the Interior
Full traceability between daily records and the quarterly and annual reports to the Ministry, reducing observations and requests for corrections.
How we work
From assessment to financial statements.
Step 1
Accounting assessment
We review the books, the systems and each donor’s requirements.
Step 2
System setup
We configure cost centers, classes and funding sources.
Step 3
Bookkeeping and close
We process, reconcile and close every month on time.
Step 4
Statements and reports
We deliver financial statements with notes and project execution reports.
The goal is not just up-to-date numbers, but accounting that stands behind the organization before authorities, donors and its board.
FAQ
Questions we are often asked
Can the organization contract accounting only, without compliance services?
Yes. Accounting is a standalone service for organizations that do not need, or already have, regulatory compliance support.
Do you take over the books or work with the in-house team?
Both. We can take on the accounting in full or collaborate with the in-house accounting team to strengthen its processes, as technical support for the finance lead.
Which accounting systems do you work in?
QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Dynamics GP. We work directly in the organization’s system or migrate it, and set up cost centers, classes and funding sources.
How do you handle each donor’s funds?
We strictly separate restricted, unrestricted and own funds, distinguish direct project costs from administrative expenses, and prepare budget-execution reports to each donor’s requirements.
Can you help with tax obligations?
Yes. We manage monthly withholding and filings with the DGI and the municipality, and advise the organization so it does not pay tax it does not owe, in light of the 2024 reforms to Nicaragua’s Tax Law.
